UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s soccer team announced its 2018 schedule Tuesday, May 15. This year’s schedule is highlighted by 10 matches at Jeffrey Field as well as five regular season matches and one exhibition match against teams that were selected for the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
Head coach Jeff Cook enters his first season at the helm of the Penn State men’s soccer program after being hired as the 12th head coach in the storied history of the program.
“I am thrilled to announce my first regular season schedule at Penn State,” stated Cook. “The 2018 schedule is highlighted by 10 home matches at Jeffrey Field, one of the premier venues for collegiate soccer in the United States. Our Big Ten season will be very challenging, and we also look forward to competing against high quality opponents from around the country both here in University Park and on the road. We can hardly wait for the first game on August 24th to kick-off what we hope will be a very memorable season in 2018.”
Cook and his Nittany Lions kick off the 2018 schedule with a Friday, Aug. 24 contest at Jeffrey Field against UCF and follow it up with their second home match of the season as Bowling Green comes to town Tuesday, Aug. 28.
Penn State hits the road for the first time on Friday, Aug. 31 when it closes out the month with a 7 p.m. match against the University of Rhode Island.
The Blue and White open the month of September inside the friendly confines of Jeffrey Field when Oregon State comes to town on Monday, Sept. 3. Cook and his squad then hit the road for one match against Villanova Sept. 8 at Talen Energy Stadium before returning home for two contests.
The Nittany Lions take on High Point Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Jeffrey Field and open Big Ten Conference play Sunday, Sept. 16 against Ohio State. The contest against the Buckeyes will mark the Sixth Annual Mack Brady Memorial Match and will be the second time Penn State has faced off with OSU in yearly match as it took a 4-2 victory in the 2016 campaign. The Blue and White are 14-10-3 in B1G openers since joining the conference in the 1991 season and opens its league schedule with Ohio State for the third-straight season.
Penn State continues its Big Ten slate with a road match in Ann Arbor, Michigan against the Wolverines Friday, Sept. 21 and returns to Jeffrey Field Wednesday, Sept. 26 for a 7 p.m. contest against the Spartans of Michigan State. The Nittany Lions close out the month of September with an away match against the Hoosiers of Indiana Sunday, Sept. 30.
The Blue and White will travel to Northwestern Saturday, Oct. 6 before beginning a three-match home stretch. Cook and his team will play non-conference opponent Stony Brook Tuesday, Oct. 9 and gets back into Big Ten Conference action Sunday, Oct. 14 against Wisconsin.
Penn State closes out its quick three-match home stretch with a mid-week match against Detroit Mercy Wednesday, Oct. 17. The Nittany Lions concluded their 2018 regular season away schedule with a contest against James Madison (Oct. 20) and B1G foe Maryland (Oct. 24).
The Blue and White will honor its seven seniors Sunday, Oct. 28 when it closes out its 2018 regular season at Jeffrey Field against Rutgers.
The Nittany Lions will begin their hunt for the third Big Ten Conference crown in seven years and its third NCAA appearance in seven years starting the first week of November with the Big Ten Conference Tournament.
Dates and times for all matches are subject to change. Penn State men's soccer does not charge for tickets or parking during the regular season at Jeffrey Field. Promotions for the upcoming season will be announced at a later date.
